U.S. Route 66 - Chenoa, Illinois

After so much time in the near Chicago I thought it would be nice if all else Downstate Old U.S. Route 66 back. To the north of the city of Chenoa, Illinois, the historical section of U.S. Route 66, the end is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, but the road continues south toward Bloomington. In Pontiac, we first hit Chenoa, in northern McLean County.

Chenoa is a small town of about 2,000 inthe extreme northern McLean County. The picturesque center, almost a ghost town the day I walked Day (St. Patrick's - is to hear the explanation for those left in hand) had the good fortune to have put a little 'care, it presents itself. Some buildings show the architectural harmony that we have seen in Tampico Main Street Historic District.

A period of post has been repainted at the head of one of the structures, however, the addition ofthe character of the area. Absent cars and people, I almost felt I was in a small town in the 19th century, if only the roads were not paved.

Although the entire route of old U.S. 66 through Illinois is declared National Scenic Byway, the only place entered in the national registry in Chenoa is a non-house subsidiaries, Matthew T. Scott House.

The Scott House was built in twoPhases and then shows two different styles. Matthew T. Scott was an important figure in the early McLean County is known as the founder of Chenoa. He was one of the first settlers of the areaand farmers, and has actively promoted settlement in the vicinity. The house appears today like a photo of 1910, you can see that link below. The Scott House was added to the National Register of Historic Places in early 1983.
